Whaat,

Wow, that's great programming.
Porting a complex material setting (blended material) to a simple Sketchup option (the opacity slider). Amazing.
Very logical and pragmatical.

Ever thought of a second programming career?
You sure have the right "K.I.S.S" attitude to it (="Keep It Simple Stupid").
They should hire you to fine tune the Vray plugin for sketchup too make it more simple and efficient.

Thanks for all that candy,

Kwistenbiebel

Ono, Whaat!

You've just blown the bank!!!!

This transmittance feature is something the guys at NL haven't been close to cracking yet!!!!

If I'm right this material will suit very well the problem with leaves and curtains where some transmittence is justified.

Whaat:

Will this material be likely supported via the blended material ie: can we still clip the material and enable transmittance???

Brilliant stuff!!!!!!!!

Hey Whaat, when do we get to try it out? Is it available now or.....

on another note, I dl'd the trial to Vray, couldn't even get into it, way too complicated for my tired brain, the WYSIWYG way you are doing this is truly great and easy to use.
thanks soo much! :D

This is the lampshade material (same as before) but with a checkered clip map.

x-ray mode

Post by Whaat » Mon May 21, 2007 7:43 am

I got this idea to see if I could export Sketchup's X-ray display mode. It's maybe not the most useful feature but it might be fun to play around with. It only took me about 15 minutes to code anyway so it's not really a waste of time on my part. To export in x-ray mode....guess what? Turn on Sketchup x-ray mode!! This brilliant feature  will be in the next version of SkIndigo!

No, x-ray mode will export whatever materials are applied (phong, diffuse, specular, etc.) but they will all be blended with a null material (blend factor is 0.2 in the image above)

Well, I finally squashed the 'bug' of the Sketchup camera view zooming in or out when setting the width and height of the render. It's not really a bug, tho. I just never properly understood the relationship between the Sketchup camera model and the image aspect ratio.
Although this 'bug' wasn't much of a problem for me, I am sure some people out there (kwisten  ) will be very glad to see it gone....

On another note, I don't want to give too much away, but I am working on some really cool stuff that will hopefully make it into the next version.... :D :D

Dummy instancing

Post by Whaat » Sat Jun 02, 2007 7:43 am

Dummy instancing test: I think the advantages of this feature are pretty obvious, especially to Sketchup users.

Number of cars: 3162
Export time: 8 seconds
Render time: approx. 30 minutes

The way it works right now is any instanced component that is named "NAME_DUMMY" will be treated as a dummy component. The actual geometry exported will be that of the component named "NAME". Make sense?
Now, I think I'll make a forest.....

EDIT: Added (really ugly) forest. Noise free in less than 30 minutes.

Cheers,
Whaat

that's GREAT!!!

Where is the real geometry???

I can't see it in the sketchup view.
