I updated the first post to list some current requests. I am sure there are many more out there. Please use this forum as I rely on your comments to improve the exporter! Chances are, if you post a request, I will implement it sooner than you think..... :D

Possible Bug??

Post by crc » Fri Jun 22, 2007 6:48 am

Hi, just started setting up a simple scene for some lamp tests. It has one texture that I created, just a jpg.
When I export I get this Fatal Error.
Any ideas? Exports fine when i don't use the texture.
using the latest Indigo and Skindigo.
Thanks!

I just included the screenshot so you could see everything it says, hope that's cool.

I think you have a greyscale jpg, it has to be RGB.

weird grey edge to sketchup view

Post by Jenjen » Sat Jul 28, 2007 8:05 am

hi, i'm new to indigo and skindigo and i'm just testing out how everything works.
i've come across a weird problem tho, when you change the render width and height to anything other than 800 x 600 a translucent grey border appears either side of the view in sketchup. it doesn't appear to change the render quality at all, it justs corrupts the sketchup file so that even if you reopen it, it stills has it there.

First of all, welcome to Indigo!

The grey borders will always appear when you change your image dimensions unless they exactly match up with the size of the SketchUp viewport. The borders show the exact output of the rendered image so they are serving a useful purpose :) . If you want to render an image that is the same size as your viewport (and eliminate the grey border) set the image width to zero.

Hope this helps...

can you set default the texture bumpmap to 0.001 and specular map exponent to 1.0?

I think these are the sensible defaults Ono uses, and will save much typing in

there are a few other things, but I need to get back to sketchup before I can remeber them :)

A bug I think

when I do a render with the environment set as background, then any lights in the scene don't work?

change back to sun and sky and they work fine, even if the sun+sky is disabled

Not a bug. Tonemapping issue. Reduce the strength of your emitters or darken the color of the background.

Also, environment maps need a high gain value when used with mesh emitters. Try a gain of 1 million as a start.

I have been meaning to change the default gain value to a more reasonable number but I haven't had the time to do any tests.

Nope! Who's to say what a default bump map or exponent map value should be? These values depend on too many factors.
Is it really THAT much effort to type those numbers in? :P

If so, I can tell you how to change the default values within the exporter script...

thanks

In the other exporters I have used Specular materials and the other SSS material have a transparent on/off option. I didn't see this in the Sketchup exporter.

Do you have it setup a different way?

Yes,

The SU opacity slider controls transparency. If set to less than 100, material will be transparent. A setting of 0 results in no absorption. To increase absoption, increase the opacity setting.
