Please Help the Newb!

Post by Shmesh » Tue Feb 05, 2008 9:13 am

I am just starting to learn Indigo and had a few quick questions you seasoned veterans will laugh at but hopefully answer. I have a complete sketchup model built. I built it before learning about indigo. I have taken the tutorials and can not seem to crack why some of my problems are occurring.

1. I have glass that will either show as just white and some that just shows black. The white glass is in a component inside of a group. Does this matter?

2. I have a metal material that is rendering on most surfaces but wont shows up as black on others.

I am sure that these are simple fixes but don't have any idea what to do.

Thank you!

Welcome to Indigo.

Step 1: Check for reversed faces and flip them. The material must be applied to the front of the face.

Step 2: Go through these tutorials:
http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/fo ... 17&start=0

They are for version 0.9 but are still useful for newer versions.

indigo will only render the front side (normals) of faces, you have to make sure that those are the ones facing the camera and have the material applied to them. Also, the material has to be applied to a face, not a group.

Spend a little time just browsing through the forums, specifically this one, most questions are answered that way.
and welcome and have fun! :D
Also,
what is white glass?
and what version Indigo/Skindigo are you using?
Shouldn't matter that it is nested.

Damn Face normals!

Thank you guys. I forgot to put the model in monochrome to see the face normals. I was assuming that since I saw the material the face normals were oriented correctly.
Thanks again!
