How to do colored glass in Skindigo?

Post by ZYX » Wed Dec 26, 2007 1:12 pm

I'm relatively new to skindigo exporter and don't know how to do colored glass using Skindigo exporter. I have tried many things but it doesn't shows transparent enough or it just shows like normal glass. Can anyone help me please?

wasn't the colour intensity given by "transparency"? Try to set that to 25...

If there's no transparency, then nvm^^

The color is controlled by the transparency slider in the skp mat. editor. I have found that it can take a long time to show the color if you want it fairly opaque, and it can look black at first before it clears up. You could also try the lampshade preset.

As soon as you give a material a transparency within Skp it becomes Specular for Indigo, so I think that is the one to go with.

It's not as SSS thing though.

Hi ZYX!
I get a coloured glass if i prepare a SU material, setting its opacity to 1 and giving it the colour i want, let's say red. SkIndigo exports it as a specular mat.
I notice that a very very light colour is preferable, i mean: if you want a red glass don't give a red colour to your su material: give it a soft pink, and then set opacity to 1. If while rendering you see it comes out too washed, increase a bit the intensity of SU colour.

I know this method is a little time consuming..

However try and see if it works! :D :D

Hey ZYX,

I haven't tried your model yet but this is how it works:

The SU opacity slider controls the 'gain' of the color absorption. It is calibrated for the typical window glass thickness (1/4" - 3/4"). If your glass material is very thick, the opacity slider must be VERY low to get the right amount of transparency. Make sure your model is at real-world scale. Try an opacity of 10 and then adjust it from there. If your glass is thick and it is not transparent enough with the opacity set to 1, you will have to scale your entire scene smaller.

I have my reasons for calibrating the slider this way. I have no plans to ever change it.

Well what I really want to do is a liquid in its glass and I have some problems. When i put it in the glass the liquid loses its color and becomes completely transparent. In the model part of the liqud is inside the glass as shown in the indigo manual, but still shows fully transparent. Please help...

Hey ZYX...

Be sure to set the precedence of the glass & fluid right.
The glass precedence has to be higher at least by one than the fluid precedence!
Just btw: In Indigo the air has a Precedence of 0 so everything needs at least a value of 1 to be show...

correction of ZomB:
Air has 1, so everything else needs at least 2 ;)

It sounds like a problem with precedence. The glass should have a higher precedence than the liquid. Try setting the glass precedence to 3 and the liquid precedence to 2.
