Clay Render

Post by JGA » Wed Aug 15, 2007 3:13 am

Can anyone please advise on where to find the CLAY RENDER option referred to in the readme file. I've tried to set the render to monochrome, but I'm finding it appears "coloured".
Can the clay colour be changed, or is a predefined default?

While I'm typing, is their a preference for using a certain method of renderer for a particular scene (MLT, PT, etc.), or is it just down to a render time issue?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide, & to Whaat for producing an excellent companion for SKUP & Indigo. The tutorials are also very helpful.

1st: No idea... sry...
2nd:
It actually is kinda a preference of your own...
MTL: good caustics, valuable speed
PT: not too good caustics, badish (I know, that this word doesn't exist, mrCarnivore) indirect light (that means, you should use it, where there is sun or a good lit room), a bit faster, with direct light.
Hybrid, a mixture of MTL + PT....
might be good for stuff like direct lit SSS or something like that...

BiDir: improves caustics, alot, but atm, there are some randomish problems with SSS...

If you render with Monochrome mode on, you should be able to select "Clay" from the drop down list. This color cannot be changed. However, you can make your own material instead and then select it from the drop down list instead of the Clay material.

@Kram1032: I bet you have explained the differences between MLT and PT at least 10 times. Why not spend some time contributing the WIKI or FAQ instead of always answering the same questions? Just a thought....

Whaat,
Thanks very much for your help.
For others, the drop down list is available after you pick your file name in the Export Model menu command.

Transparency with Clay Render

Post by JGA » Wed Jan 16, 2008 10:15 pm

I've tinkered with Kerkythea in the past, & have found the option to do a Clay render while retaining the transparency of materials very effective.
Is their a way of replicating this with Skindigo (apart from painting everything one colour, of course!)?

By the way, congratulations to Whaat on v1 of Skindigo.

I think this can be done quite easily. I will take a look when I get the chance.

Thanks (with the amount of suggestions you receive, your to-do list must be huge!)
