Displacement max subdivision problem

Post by Antonis777 » Fri Jul 20, 2012 9:08 pm

I created a terrain, which is not level by the way, and added a rock texture with displacement map. When I put max subdivision above 0 my terrain was ''cut''. My mesh is a group and the max subdivision number is put inside it. I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong. Any ideas?

Max subdivisions 0. These holes are made in purpose. No specific problem

..I guess you've run into a known issue..
Something which is bothering me since I use sketchup, indeed...

I bet you've applied your texture to a simple flat object.
You have to subdivide your object first, if you get these errors.

1. try to apply the same material to a simple rectangle and repeat your test. See and post what's the result with different subdivs

2. try to apply the same mat to a sandbox-created rectangle (which is naturally subdivided into triangles). Repeat tests.

3. If the tests above lead to correct result, you just have to get a plugin which subdivides the selected faces into smaller triangles (Whaat's subdivide and smooth, for example)

I tried again with a sandbox terrain and when I put max subdivision 4 I had the same results. Furthermore, when I increase max subdivisions number to a single mesh, other objects are cut also (see image no 3)... I also noticed that the same problem came up when I subdivided this terrain with the line tool, or the "add detail" button of sandbox tools. Does this happen because sketchup objects are not solid but single surfaces? My Indigo and Skindigo version is 3.4.4.
