15 mn of free render time + the BLITZ for Indigo!

Post by RenderFred » Fri Jul 11, 2008 7:44 am

Hi everyone,

Two good news: first, I am pleased to announce that every RANCH user (new or already registered) gets a free gift of 15 minutes render time (worth $58.14). 15 minutes on the RANCH is equivalent to 24 hours of render time on a Quad Core @ 3 GHz, so if you have a scene to render... now is a good time to try the RANCH!

Second good news: the BLITZ! formula is now operational for Indigo projects. Perfect for lowres (1024x1024 max) test renders at a superlow price ($10 flat fee!). All the details in appendix A of the updated RUG 1.03.

Cheers :D

Fred

WOW that is great news :) I'll probably be using that free 15 min for the indigo competition ^.^

will it quit at exactly 15 minutes, or will it keep going and well have to pick up the rest of the tab?
Yes i know, my spelling sucks

Useful precisions about the 15 free render time offer

Post by RenderFred » Fri Jul 11, 2008 9:16 pm

I thought the following precisions may be helpful to clear any potential confusion about the 15 minutes free render time offer:

- if the job exceeds 15 minutes, you will have to pay for the difference. We offer exactly 15 minutes of rendering, so anything above is automatically charged.
- if the job does not use the 15 minutes, you will still have the remaining time for another project. It's like a mini prepaid subscription in fact, it lasts until all the time is used.

If you specify a render time limit of exactly 15 minutes, the project will always be longer than that because of the additional times (distribution of the project across the network, warming up, and most notably gathering+merging the IGIs). So if you want to maximize your chances of not paying at all for a project, you must take this into account, and specify for instance 10-12 minutes of render time. Typical merging times are indicated on page 11 of the current RUG.

Cheers

Fred

Hum I tried to render a project for 5 min to see how it looks high-res.
I used the 5 min from my free 15 min for it... but unfortunately I uncluded all the models as the new indigo format 1.1.5 supports (as igs of course)... Now my project was detected as an anim and is running for 9 min instead of 5 up to now...
Please fix this guys!

€dit: Damn I forgot RANCH is using 1.0.9... will redo it for 1.0.9 ;)

Yes, and even when 1.1.x will be considered stable, do not forget that the only way we can automatically detect animations is because there are several IGS files in the .vui archive. So even with the future stable 1.1.x, if you want to render a still image and not an animation, always check that there is only ONE .igs file in the archive, otherwise it will automatically be detected as an animation - and it will crash in that case.

Fred

P.S: @Phr0stByte, we will contact you shortly.

Hmm.. I think most of the exporters are producing separate igs files for scene and geometry and etc. To my mind this is not a very good way to check if the scene is animation or not.
Maybe a "special dummy file" would be better? or smth like that?

Well, I never encountered the "single scene in multi-IGS parts" case during the beta-test, so I could not guess this possibility existed.

I have taken a look at the file PureSpider uploaded yesterday and remarked that all the ".igs includes" have names beginning by "PACKED". Is it always the case with all the exporters? Because if it is, the solution is simple: I can program the parser to ignore all the .igs files beginning with "PACKED" when it counts the number of .igs files in the .vui archive. That way it would not identify this type of project as an animation

I used Indigo 1.1.5 for packaging it, no exporter ;)
I think if you pack it with Indio 1.1.5 this is always the case, yes

Tried the RANCH, and the results are undeniably fantastic! Though, my project was rendered for less than an hour to reach a max of 4000 SSP at 3264x2448 res, my price payed was $124.61 (US) - and that is minus my free 15 min! I think this service is only good for rich people...

0.19*1224*0.5
= 116.28
So if your project rendered 45 minutes, minus the 15 free minutes it would be $116.28... ;)
And yes, renderfarms are only for rich people though :D

Not for rich, but for production stuff. If you are payed couple gran for your work few hundred for rendering is cheap.
