Users have latched onto the term "MLT" as representing unbiased ray tracing, and that any other method is biased. This is not true. There are several variants of unbiased ray (or path) tracing. MLT is one of them. It is neither higher tech nor lower tech than other variants. Unbiased is unbiased and...

I only came here to help people with the supersampling issue, and to point out to someone where the SU documentation was. I'm not here to debate your conspiracy theories. If you want to crow about someone making a stupid mistake, and point out that the beta testers were asleep at the wheel on spotti...

The render of the green boxes demonstrates a limitation of bidirectional path tracing, where as I understand it, a perfect mirror cannot see it's own caustics. Your render of the spheres demonstrates a bug in vBeta 1.8 (fixed). They are two separate issues.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Yes, when there isn't bug. You seem to grasp the concept of cheating so well, but you don't understand bugs?

"Bi-directional path tracing is great for caustics in particular but only directly-viewed ones. It doesn't help at all for when the caustics are viewed via a specular surface (because it can't join up the light and eye portions of the path) which explains why Maxwell/Fry/Indigo/Radium et al will str...

Did it ever occur to you that it might be a bug? WTF is with this "cheating" bullshit?

The manual for fryrender+Sketchup is in the fryrender plugins manual.pdf that is included with the setup. See pages 54-60.

Fryrender does not auto-convert Sketchup materials in the scene itself unless you tell it to. It does auto-convert them on export.

My *guess* is that Fryrender/Maxwell are "cheating" slightly, and simply not sampling the *edges* of objects as much as they should. IMHO. That's what the "S" button is for! Fryrender has one. Maxwell does not. When you are doing small hobby renders, use the S button. It takes longer and uses more ...

Actually, filtering is not the term I should have used.

. BTW, that bluriness is AA filtering, and is intended ! ;) What's the reason? Anti-aliasing is accomplished by pixel blurring to minimize the "stair-step" effect caused by highly contrasting adjacent pixels. Aliasing is less of a problem with high res renders because there are more pixels to repre...

For small images like the ones you all are testing, enable supersampling (S button). It's in the Output configuration rollout. Disabling it is not an issue for large renders.

very amusing, all online IQ tests are hardly acurate, but this one flaunted it by giving you two (i got 127, if you click the sample report it gives you a diffrent one, in my case 91). The sample report was just to show you what type of information you would receive should you purchase the full rep...
