PS3 and Controllers
A project I've been working on, with a PS3, controllers, and a few games. (I know it's a bit grainy, but I had been rendering for 10 hours when I realized that I had left my laptop unplugged. It shut down, but I salvaged the render from the indigo files.) Render from Indigo: ps3 orig render....

Re: Enviornment HDR
Thanks. Managed to convert it in Blender.
But, now when I try rendering using the exr file, it ends up being an odd, dark, rainbow of noise. This can't be normal for environment map renders, can it?

Re: 2001 Space Station Lounge
Okay, new wide angle update. I took the magazines out for this render cause they were being annoying.

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Agh, sorry for the double post. Thought I'd post this.
Just a simple studio render of a calculator.

Re: Simple Renderings Thread
Nice work with the frosted plastic on the lego ship. I agree, very photoreal.

Re: 2001 Space Station Lounge
I'll try messing with the ior value. And yes, I did use Godzilla's fabric texture as a bump, bt as you said, the noise is pretty heavy.

Enviornment HDR
How can I use an enviornment HDR from Blendigo?
It implies that I need an EXR file. What is that? I have several nice HDR files, in spherical format.
Where can I get exr files? Can I convert my hdr files to them somehow?

Re: 2001 Space Station Lounge
Hmm. I'm using Blender, and I don't know of the Phong tag.
But, I tried changing the magazines to diffuse and that fixed it. They don't look nice and glossy, but you can see the texture at least.

Re: 2001 Space Station Lounge
I thought it was a normals problem too, but I checked earlier, and everything was fine, normals wise.
Now that it's further on in the test render, I can see that the black parts aren't completely black, though. It looks like those areas are just very darkly shaded for some reason.

Re: 2001 Space Station Lounge
Thanks, Godzilla, I think that'l help a lot.
Did a test render with the magazine very close to the camera, so I could get a better look at what's happening. Only about five minutes in, I could tell it was doing the exact same thing.
I'm stumped. What's going wrong here?

Re: 2001 Space Station Lounge
How do I change the angle for smoothing? Is that an option in the export process?
Oh yeah, thought I'd post the period specific TIME covers that I made for the scene.

Re: 2001 Space Station Lounge
Yeah, I see what you mean. I had the material set to Phong with an exponent of 5, but even that gives noticeable specular highlights. I'l set it to diffuse for the next render.
Once again, if anyone has an answer to why the magazines are turning partly black, I'd love to hear it.

Re: 2001 Space Station Lounge
another update. Added a bunch of details, such as magazines and glasses. Had it render since yesterday.
Could someone explain why parts of my magazines turned black? that's not in the texture.

Re: 2001 Space Station Lounge
Thanks Borgleader. I agree, they probably are Tv's, so I've given them a dark reflective material.
I've populated the scene with more chairs, changed the material some, and built some of the Hilton desk.
(Sorry, still a bit noisy and small.)

2001 Space Station Lounge
I'm trying to recreate the lounge in the Russia/US Space Station from my the classic sci-fi movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. I've always loved the set design from this movie, and it was difficult to choose between this and the centrifuge from Discovery. http://mikes-images.com/misc/2001/images/2001_mq_0...
