Congratulations Ben!very nice and useful piece of code
For now all my problems are textures, for me everywhere there is an image there is a crash.
With Blendigo i had the same results, a simple cube with an image on diffuse give me a crash but the same cube without the texture works fine.
I'll send some Crash report.

Sorry for the late response Ilja, I've been out for the weekend.
Since I used the yousendit software, I didn't catch the link as it was automaticaly generated and sent to benn; but I have resent the file with the same software, this time to my email, so here is the link for you and everyone on the beta group:

I think a pre-leopard compatible version is really important, actually. there are definitely a lot of poeple who didn't go for the upgrade. I have access to both, but the machine I do most of my testing and set-up on is still running 10.4 (with crossover)

jpg issue

Post by IljaPanzer » Fri Feb 27, 2009 1:38 pm

Hi there again,

on the quest for bringing Indigo to the mac I did a lot of test in the past week. Amongst I tried two wood materials from the material database ElmWood and BeechWood. While BeechWood renders without problems Indigo crashes on the ElmWood material. I investigated the igm files and saw that BeechWood used png files while ElmWood used jpg files.

Now guess what. I converted all jpg images from the example files into png files and changed the igs example files accordingly. Now almost all files I listed in my first test as "crashed while Building Scene" now render without problems:
  • antialias_test.igs
  • binary_mesh_test.igs
  • blend_material_test.igs
  • bump_displacement_test.igs
  • bumpmap_test.igs
  • checker_antialias_test.igs
  • diffuse_transmitter_test.igs
  • exponent_map_test.igs
  • glossy_glass_test.igs
  • internal_mesh_test.igs (the igs has the filename for the jpg/png file spelled correctly but I also had to correct the lowercases/uppercases)
  • null_blend_test.igs
  • oren_nayar_test.igs
  • patterned_frosted_glass_test.igs
  • patterned_frosted_glass_test2.igs
  • phong_test.igs
  • procedural_bump_test.igs
  • quad_displacement_test.igs
  • simple_bump_test.igs
  • subdivision_quad_test.igs
  • subdivision_test.igs
  • subdivision_uv_test.igs
  • sun_bump_test.igs
  • texture_test.igs
  • textured_emitter_test.igs
Still crashes/problems with files:
  • albedo_shader_test.igs (crashes)
  • blend_material_shader_test.igs (error)

    Code: Select all

SceneLoaderExcep: Builder: Function return type 'vec3' differs from declared type of 'real'(In element 'shader', around line 55, column9)

  • phong_test_4.igs (nk data missing)
I also got to work sphere_bump_test.igs by changing the images from jpg to png and deleting the first blank line in the igs file.

So, there seems to be an issue with jpg files, as Indigo crashes on them but works fine with pngs. Hope, this helps in some way.

All the best to you
Ilja

That's it!
Converting all to png make it work smooth with custom scene too.
Thumb up

best regards

Hey all,

I'm working on the jpeg issue - it's a conflict in libjpeg somewhere. I've also fixed a bunch of the small issues that you've listed. I won't be releasing the next version for about two weeks while Ono and I sort out some company business first.

I am keen as to get things rolling again - thanks for being patient!

:)

Ben
