You could add a note to the environment setting too. But to be honest I'd change it, cause if I
imagine someone setting up a scene with lots of lights then adds an environment map and figures
out that something is wrong ... I dunno. I's just confusing a bit. We could also wait for Nik to add
layer support for it.

Like I said, maybe a note is enough for now. Maybe it's possible to show an info somewhere, what
is on which layer. It's just very much hidden that the environment map is on layer-0.

Erm, ... sorry to bump the thread. I've another request I forgot to write in the last one.

I do need Indigo's subdivision option for objects really bad. First I thought you could put it into the
material without using displacement, after another night I found it better to add it as modifier. So I
suggest to introduce a new subdivision modifier with all options Indigo provides. This will make
export of bigger meshes faster as I can use Indigo's subdivision instead of 3dsmax.

Right now I'm using 3dsmax subdivisions with iteration 1 and then add Indigo subdivision by hand
later in the xml. This is just a very ugly workaround tho. So please add it to your todo list.

Thanks for reading! ;o))

p.s. Maybe you can hack the subdivision panel of 3dsmax and include the options there?
That would be cool too. No worries if not, cause I don't mind to use another modifier.

Hey,
Yeah, I've been thinking about this too. Just haven't got enough time to make it happen.
As a workaround you can use Maxigo-Displacement modifier. Just leave the displacement map to none and turn on Smoothing. It should work, I think.

Hi Suv!
I will spend this morning trying to learn something about Maxigo. Lots of interesting stuff indeed!

BTW, I'm getting an error now: it can be something very stupid but I can't find a way to fix it. I've added a standard Max foliage to the scene. I've detached the leaves and I set a simple phong material with a clip map. The material previews correctly in the mat editor. When I launch the render i get this, though:

"A problem occurred with the scene:
SceneLoaderExcep: Failed to find expected element 'blend'. (In element 'blend', around line 147, column 5)"

What is it?
Sorry to bother Suv...

If the material works in material editor, then it's probably a bug. (but then again, material editor and scene export procedures share the same code..so if it works in mat. editor it should work everywhere..)
Could you send me your scene maybe?

Oh, good: I've already deleted the file
I'll try to reproduce that in a while: I'll be back in ten minutes!
Thank you Suv!

Can someone confirm that plugin works with Max2009? I am getting maxscript error after installing.
For Max2010 it works, but I need it for Max2009...
Error is:

Code: Select all

--Cannot assign to read-only variable :Panel
Can it work with both Max2010 (trial) and Max2009 (trial) installed at same time?

Sounds like a conflict with some other plugin or script.
I'll try to change the variable name from "panel" to something else in next version.
