But some of the things that might be a bit "newish" are:
Material previews inside material editor default slots.
New light layers system.
Indigo camera parameters under standard camera.
UTF-8 support (you can have paths and textures with special characters)
Max lights are converted to Indigo emitters.
Backburner can be used for rendering animations.
Batch rendering support.
