Strange diagonal lines on the render - is it just me?

Hi,

I've just started experimenting with indigo and blender using the fine blender/indigo tutorial. The scene with Suzanne works just fine, but sometimes when i try to render my own objects i get some strange diagonal lines on the render. To me they seem to appear randomly, but maybe thats just caused by my ignorance. I use blender242/v0.6beta3 exporter and indigo v0.6 under wine/linux.

I hope someone can help me shed some light on this, thanks.

Heya plaurits, welcome to the Indigo community! :D ;)

Erm, ... do you use a HDRI map to light your scene? If so, use latlong instead
of spherical. And if not, ... tell us more about your scene. :P :D ;)

edit: changed latitude to latlong ... *LOL*
Note: Of course you have to use a latlong map then. ;o)

Thanks :)

No i don't use a HDRI map or anything, its very basic stuff. Its just like the Suzanne scene with a single sunlight as light source. The xml is 25.5mb, that shouldn't be too much right? Maybe i should upload the xml to my server?

Yes, that would help. Please archive it somehow and post the link.
I'll be back later, have to grab some food. ;o))

Thanks a lot!

4.5mb

Its really strange, i just removed an object not visible for the camera and exported the scene once again, and now it seems only the top of the render is messed up. To me this really seems like a bug or something :?

@plaurits

Hmm, ... I tried your scene and I can't reproduce the problem here, but I'm
on windows so it would help if someone on linux and wine could help out. ;o)

Thanks, that narrowed it down a little. Maybe i should cross my fingers for a native linux version :)

I use Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) and i just upgraded wine from 0.9.22 to 0.9.26, but that didn't seem to make any difference.

However the lines seem to degrade after some time. If anyone here have tried to render the scene on windows i would very much like to see the result, so i can compare my renderings.

No, you're not alone. I fought with Radiance's material preview scene once and this bug occurred constantly, so I started looking for a pattern. Apparently what helps is a) resizing everything in your scene thus making it smaller and b) using a larger resolution for the render. Do that and export and render your scene again. :)

PS: Ubuntu Edgy and wine 9.26

I'll render the scene when I'm back home in some hours. ;)

Couple of minutes with Indigo 0.6 and wine 0.9.26 under Ubuntu Linux. (Resized the scene a little.)

It's not because of WINE!

I had the problem, once, and I nearly became mad searching for the reason (five minutes before, the same scene was rendering OK!).
I'm also on Linux, and I can tell that it is NOT because of Wine!

Go back to Blender, and change the renderer back from Yafray to Blender internal, and export again.
It seems that when you choose Yafray for render, some of the values needed for the exporter are not available anymore (don't remember exactly...).

I hope it will help you.
