I am looking for a good material for car paint..I am currently modeling a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and I am looking for a photo-realistic material for the body of the car. I found Sonix's car material blender file but every time i apply the same settings it does not render correctly in indigo. I am kind of new to the whole adding materials and such so I dont exactly know what all the setting mean. If you could help me out with any suggestions/tips/tricks ...it would be greatly appreciated.

You have to use a phong.
Use phong with exponent 1000 and "ferrari red" ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red That red itself isn't really in the shades-part, but at least, some quite simmilar to it.
scroll down ;)

yeah blender materials work nothing like Indigo materials. check out the documentation to see what you need.
but youd probably want a phong material mixed with a non-transparent specular material. you do this by applying a blend material to the car through Blendigo or the blender-indigo exporter. the internal blender renderer wont look anything like what you get in Indigo.

THANKS ALOT!

Here is where I am at so far..I have been playing around with the phong and specular settings..it is too much fun. I dont want to go back to modeling the rest of the car. haha.

really looks great, but something's wrong with the glass...
look at the refraction...

Lower the glass' percedence or set that one of the specular, that's inside the blend, higher!
They should be different ;)

haha, sorry. I should have specified. I have not yet modelled the glass. I am working ont hat right now actually. All I have modeled right now is the sheet metal and the wheels and tires. so what you are seeing is the objects behind...not a reflection. but thatnk you..i will keep that in mind when i go to render the glass.

You woun't find any for Indigo

The trick is to use the void.nk material als phong with ultra high exponent.
This (buggy) Material has a wonderful fresnel effect:

Use it together with a (bright) exr lightning for maximum sex appeal!

jurasek uses it for his orgasm on wheels too

"nothing" to use as mat, lol
I guess, it also is supposed to be transparent :P
I used it to get dark gold or so, yet :D

au+ag = bright gold
au+void = dark gold

no shader no => photo realistic carpaint

I hope one day the dermis/epidermis code get revamped to a single material that generates layered mats based on Material Depth so it could be used to generate layered carpaint, or other nice stuff
