Mesh emitter + ies light possible?

Post by afecelis » Fri Dec 18, 2015 7:19 am

Hi guys,

I'm trying to replicate this scene:
http://www.telardigital.com/afecelis/in ... _ref01.jpg

I'm working on the modeling/lighting part and before applying materials I'd like to know if it's possible to have both mesh emitters+ ies lights working together to simulate the circular spots on the floor. I tried using one mesh for the emitter and a second copy of it moved a little underneath it for the ies light but it covers the emitter. I tried then to move the ies mesh away from the emitter, now I can see both the mesh emitter and the spots on the floor, but I can see the mesh of the ies light. Is there a way to make a mesh invisible but still have it emit light/ies light?

Here's my image so far:

Thanks for any help.

regards,
Alvaro

If I understand your question right, I would say yes. Just apply the ies path to your mesh emitter.

hmmmmmmm. I think I tried that first and it turned the blackbody off. Aha! you got a different power value than mine, I shall try it out :D
Thanks a lot for replying Vasco.

Here's some progress on the texturing part (I also changed the sunsky for large emitters outside):

OK, I just changed it from blackbody to RGB and assigned the emitter to a separate light layer, and cranked its power to 1500, however, It's still not visible since the lighting in the other light layer is dimming it out. I tried setting the environment light layer to zero and then I can see the lamps are casting spots on the floor, but I still can't make them an emitting material. I'll start fiddling with different values till I see them. If anyone knows of settings to get them to work properly I'd appreciate a hand ;)

Alvaro

@Vasco: could you please share your blend file (the one from your screenshot), no matter what I do I can't get it to work :(

thanks! :D

OK, here's some more progress:
-I used the reference image in blender's viewport to improve the framing of the scene.
-Checked up all proportions
-Added the AC grate and the outlet.

Pending:
-Adding the bonsai
-Adding the desk lamp
-Getting ies lighting to work.

I'm going to post it in the simple renderings thread ;)
