Maybe someone of you have already experimented this:

is it better to render an image at resolution x y, or at 2x 2y and then resize?
which solution gives less noise in the same time?

I think rendering at normal resolution shouldn't give more noise then at double resolution but the other way around is not so sure without knowing more about the implementation details. (depends on the sampling strategies used)

But either way I don't think you should bother as the difference is probably negligible anyway.

2x does give you the advantage of AA, but time gain is exponential so pick your poison.
