Making a Candle flame

in fact im trying to do a lighter flame, but it's the same, i have no idea on how to do that!!! anyone has ideas? i've tried SSS, and looks kind of a flame, but not like a real one, i mean, a real one, is blue in the sides, yellow in the top, and transparent in the middle! besides it has to emit light! help please!

Something like an emitted specular, or diffuse transmitter material, with a colour texture map to control the colour of emission would work, I think.

Gas is visible only when it ignites, it has no (or negligeable) ior nor absorbtion, you can make the base flame with a distorted sphere since ignition occurs when the pressure allows incoming oxygen from ambient air. A few hints here :)

if the IoR was negligible, the weren't such phenomenas as the far weaker heat-(or actually density)difference-effects of mirages or heat haze...
Best thing would be 3D-textures, I guess...

I may be saying the most stupid thing here but...volumetrics maybe?
