Emitter in SSS mesh

Hi,

I want to create a mesh with meshemitter inside ( or below )
And the dark mesh (the letters) i would like to apply SSS... but when i enable it, the meshlight goes black along with the dark mesh.

(image is with a phong assigned to the letters)

The emitter mesh is a cube intersecting with the dark mesh.
The ground plane is just a flat plane.

I have read on the forum somewhere that it is NEVER EVER a good idea to include a emitter inside a specular material. Better assign a blend material to it consisting outof a phong and a diffuse transmitter.

I tried Camera and Reinhard tonemaps but i cannot get the emitter and sss to work together.
I checked all the normals and the are pointing outwards

My questions are:
What is a diffuse transmitter?
And the blend material does not apply here i think. because i want the light to emit throught the dark mesh with some absorbtion. Or am i (again) misunderstading things

I never read anything regarding the use of emmiters inside specular materials, I did read regarding using specular materials in windows, namely on interiors. One thing is sure you can't have the cake and eat it too, meaning that if you do want the glass look you will have to make it glass...

I was referring to the 2nd post by BbB:
http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/fo ... ss+emitter

It is more like the wax sss effect and not transparency like glass.
But even so, i cannot get it to work
When i enable the sss, both meshes turn black. When i assign a tester phong, it renders like above

k... but what you can now do is:use specular light materials ;)

wow.. very nice indeed.. i saw that post. Is kinda what im looking for.
But then with the emitter at the back of the specular mat.
But i am a Blenderer. I do not know how to use the Cindigo materials

It's a mater of using a specular material with emission, as soon as blendigo allows it to you should have no problem ... ;)

So is it not possible to get a back/inner lit sss object without manually editing the materials xml?
Or do i need to make sure that the emitter and the sss are not intersecting?
Unlike glass and fluids which must intersect for it to work properly

The object material is in itself light, but I haven't tried it myself, I was quite shocked the first time I saw it, even...

I thought this worked fine, i'm going to try it myself in blender..

EDIT:
NM.

You can't have an emitter not fully in a medium. Ono has said this before.

Ok, but that is not the case with me.
I have an emitter which is partially intersecting with the medium
I am now doing a test with the emitter completely below the medium not touching it.. looking how that turns out

No go. You'll find a bug thread mentionning this.
I guess specular emitters could fix this, because of intersection defined by precedence but that's not sure.

actually ive seen renderings with emitters intersecting mediums. its strange. sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Maybe it makes a difference wether the emitter is an opened surface or a closed volume, just theorizing here as usual.
