Hi,
i'm new here and i read radiance tut last week and now i've started do test indigo (i'm a little bit frustrated about yafray...)
I'm using blender and indigo 0.5
so here is my first test:
Image

it took 16 houres rendering, the bump and the texes on the sofa are not perfekt and the frame of the mirror is not modelled by me.

now the question: when i change the tonemapping to linear the emitter is black, i tried different scales for the linear tonemapping and i changed the settings for the emit-material but nothing happend.

What is your scale tag set to? Sometimes that needs to be cranked up as high a 1,000,000.

Take a look at this thread:

Radiance's tutorial is a work in progress. He's going to include a section on tonemapping at a later time.

Welcome to indigo!

hi,
i tried this settings for example:
linear tonemapping, scale up to 4
<skylight>
sky-gain:200000.00,
<turbidity> 3,

material: emit
<exponent>50000000.00

so the sun was rendered nice, but emit was black

i'm only "end-user", so i'm not so fit in editing xml.
the pic above is still rendering (17,5h now) but in 2,5h i start again testing linear tonemapping.

To set up the light balance (between sky and emitter, you better use reinhard mapping first). As soon you found this, you can switch to linear-tonemapping and search for a good gain (that can vary from 1 to 100000000 !!!).
I normaly have sky-gain and emitter-gain some where between 0.0001-1.0
And for linear-tonemapping a gain of 10'000'000.
Just play arround with the settings, you will find them :wink:

thanx for replies:D

i try linearmapping because i think that there is a bigger variety, maybe i'm wrong :)
in the xml i can't find an emit_gain...
<material>
<name>Emit</name>
<phong>
<diffuse>0.980 0.952 0.874</diffuse>
<specular>0.500 0.500 0.500</specular>
<fresnel_scale>0.800</fresnel_scale>
<exponent>5000000.000</exponent>
</phong>

i'm playing with exponent but nothing changes

EDIT: wow, it's really only playing with the settings,
skylight is 0.005 and
tonemapping scale is now on 30.000.000, (big difference)

That's probabely just a dummy material, you have to locate the "meshlight" tag of the object, there you find something like:

Code: Select all

		<spectrum>
			<blackbody>
				<temperature>4500</temperature>
				<gain>0.0100000027</gain>
			</blackbody>
		</spectrum>

aaaah, thanx a lot, difficult to find, its at the end of the objekt's xml text,
but is this objekt-orientated? for global changes (a few emitters with same settings)i think it is better to change only sky gain (low) and linear-scale (high)
so there are different ways for tweaking the lights, and now i know where to look.
again thanx

aaah again!
this is the place where i can change easily the color of the emitted light,
i.e. temperature down to 2000 and gain up (factor 100)gives yellow light

a fast test:
Image

i changed
tonemapping: linear, scale 30000000
skylight: skygain 0.01

color of the sphere
<meshlight>: temperature to 1000, gain to 100

Actually, you'll find yourself waist-deep in the xml often. It's not so bad and a little addicting. Once you start to see how it works and what tags do what (radiance's tutorial is an awesome reference), you'll settle right in. It's not as hard or as tedious as it looks.

Also, you can seperate huge meshes into a seperate xml to make editing scene settings a lot quicker and easier. See this post:

Can't wait to see your finished pic.

so heres is an overnight rendering, i have to tweak more but i think i change the scene (meshes and lamp and tex)first to make it less boring

Nice render.

I dunno if you want criticism or not, but I find that the scale of the couch doesn't seem to match the rest of the scene.

Nice scene though.
