Is it possible to render lights in layers?

I was asking myself that if it could be possible to render lights in layers maxwelllike to can animate later...or if it will be implemented or is in future features list.

more or less...
you can render different lights turned "on" and then, just blend the different results by multiplying in Photoshop

yep, that's true.
The only thing, I don't get is:
a light will be black if turned of...
If that gets multiplied with white, it still will be black...
Or did I get something wrong?

You don't use multiply. You use screen.

Hopefully someone will hack this into Violet (interactive tonemapper).
Mixing tonemapped images in photoshop is a dirty hack.
