EXR or not EXR?
EXR or not EXR?
i'm not sure of something, is it possible to save images in EXR or not with indigo?
Re: EXR or not EXR?
It is definitely possible! In your 3d software and in the standalone indigo renderer.
Re: EXR or not EXR?
well, cool but, how do you proceed exactly cause when i try i get a black image in photoshop.
Re: EXR or not EXR?
You even can save multilayered EXRs in Indigo, and it seems that is what you do without a propper PS PlugIn to load it.
Try this one: https://www.exr-io.com/
I'm getting more and more let down by Adobe and the devlopment of PS and AE during the last years, the focusis shifting away from beeing state of the art and rather crawling far behind it...

Re: EXR or not EXR?
If you are using older versions of Photoshop, such as CC2018, you might want to change the compression method from PIZ to something else (like PLE, it's the first one the list, lol), because, even if you import your .exr file with your layers into PS2018, it will give you some funky lines, on every layer. If you are suing 2019 you are good to go with the plugin Zom-B linked, out of the box, every compression method will do just fine.
Re: EXR or not EXR?
thank you for the tip the squirell.
my issue is the exr i save are just black. but i'm gonna try to change the compression method to check if that does something.
anyway thanks to you and to zom-b just for trying to give tips, as i noticed its not something common to just answer to posts here

Re: EXR or not EXR?
Not a problem, we all try to help out as much as we can, when we have time for it. Zom-B actually helped me a lot, and the others too, he's a great guy.
If you are saving your exr with channels and layers, you will always end up with a black image inside Photoshop. To load them, you have to use the proper plugin for Photoshop. Adobe could just fix this implementing it's own solution, but hey...if you are strongly against that plugin, which you shouldn't be, you can tick the option inside "image saving" tab of Indigo's settings to save the layers/channels as separate files, and just combine them inside Photoshop. It's an additional step, but will bypass the plugin.
There is one more problem you could encounter, and that is the "censored-with-lines" output image, when using PIZ compression and opening that image inside PS2018. It seems that Adobe fixed that in PS2019, so if you are using the latest one, you don't have to worry about that. If you are on the older versions of PS, just change the compression method, and it will work.
