Hi
Apple is abandoning the support of OpenGL currently still at the operating system level to version 4.1 of 2010 and is available version 4.5 of 2014. It seems that all the resources until focused for Metal technology considered much more efficient.

Re: Apple Metal vs OpenGL
Hmm...
Well let's hope its because they moving in to the ring space ship campus.....and they begin working on their own GPU architecture or a specialized X CPU chip to use on lower tier mac books. If that's the case then Metal makes more sense..but still think OpenGL support of some sorts will remain present.
We will see.
