OBJ with textures

Sorry guys to bother. I have a question to ask.
I wonder if there is some way to get a correct method to convert Max files to obj, somehow linking the UVmapping to the geometry, so that the mapping is preserved in SketchUp.

Recently I've downloaded some models of Xfrog trees in obj format, and they're perfect. Ages to import them into sketchup, but perfect. So there must be a way. I've done some tests on my own but the result is always separated materials but no UVmapping.

The question is for Max users, but sketchup knowers too..

Why don't you export to .3ds, I never had a problems importing them back in. Or don't you have Pro?

Cheers,

I do have SketchUp pro, but it never lets me import the UVmapping.
While working with trees in particular, there is no way to correcty map the leaves back.

..or at least I don't know how to do it.. :(

Hmm that's strange, I really though you could when importing .3ds, but it has been years ago for me (since I used 3ds Max / PC to Mac switch). But I don't have a problem importing a .3ds by designconnected.com

Maybe it has something to due with your export settings, I don't know..

I recently got problems with OBJ export in 3dsmax, too...
I exported it in FBX and 3ds, and it worked fine.

Afaik 3dsmax offers export options especially for certain 3d packages, did you check and try these?

All of them!

Do me a favour please: try exporting a tree from one of evermotion collections.
Then, check if you can map the leaves inside sketchup.

Thank you a lot!
..and sorry to bother so much..

Unfortunately I don't own Sketchup or a tree from Evermotion...
If you mail me a tree model, can I map it within the ordinary Sketchup trial?

for me the best usable 3D Max exported meshes are in COLLADA format. Since Sketchup can export these, it should be able to import them too!?

I'm going to try that too. Thanks ZomB!
