Prozessor optimization...

Post by Zom-B » Fri Jul 21, 2006 5:24 am

Hey Ono-Sendai...

After you speed up Indigo so much by multithreading I just ask my self if Indigo is someway optimized
for some CPU Stuff like MMX SEE1 SEE2 SEE3 etc.

Is it possible to support this CPU extensions, and make it availible for the User
by switching them on in the inifile.txt, to keep Indigo compatible to old CPU's?

I don't know this much about Coding apps, so please tell me:
Is this possible to use optized Code for special CPU's?
Is this hard to integrate?
How big would be the gain?

I hope my question is not toooo stupid, but sometimes even stupid questions
get a inteligent answer :)

indigo already uses SSE in a few places.
But there is a *lot* of optimisation that could be done, the problem is, is that optimisation is very time consuming :)

Thanks for the Info...

I don't think that speeding up Indigo is a high priority Task,
it doesn't matter if I wait 5 or 6 houers for my Render ^^
So dont feel pushed, I just wanted to know

Adding stuff like SSS etc. makes it more usable for more people,
and is more important, then speeding up I think

SIMDx86 & Stuff

Post by Zom-B » Fri Jul 28, 2006 9:40 pm

Hey Nick...

I found something on the web, that seems to be usefull for your Project: SIMDx86 & x86mph
Also interesting if this could be used by a Render like Indigo: GPGPU Programming Resources & OpenGpuLib
