I adjusted a few things and rerendered my chess scene. I was going for 5000 samples/px but I only made it to 4300 due to me accidentally closing Indigo, after 120 hours of rendering :( But It's good enough. If you want to see the full resolution image I'm uploading it to the new artwork.

Eeew... the compression is ugly. Maybe I should re-export it.

Well, as I said, better light could do the trick......

(a bluish light source and a redish one - standard studio light setup...)
examples:
http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/co ... emId=32807
http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/co ... emId=33230
http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/co ... temId=1584
http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/co ... emId=30616

They all have warmer and cooler lightsources. No pure white light. ;)

Also, that's pure black and pure white on the chess board, right? Use 0.8 for white and 0.1-0.2 for black for more realism (and especially better antialiasing ;) )

Else, an environment wouldn't harm ;)

+1

And the frosted glass, does not seam to have the right ior, the light seams to go right trough. :)
On second tought it might be the absorption that should have a darker color, so it dosnt have the same transparency where the mesh is thin and where it is thicker.

Ok, thanks. I'll mess around with the lights and see what I can do.

Yeah, the frosted glass looks odd.. Lighting could also be improved too. Studios take more time, but the results are amazing. :)

Kram1032 : that's odd, ive been using almost pure white emitters for my studio set ups.. Is red and blue better? My firs thought is that this will turn your objects red and blue.. Any particular position that is best for the emitters in your opinion?

there's no need for red and blue, but they enhance colour-contrast, I guess... pure white also can lead to nice studio-shots :)
Though, I personally always liked the red/blue variant ;)
