turtles are awesome and you know it.
my renders are always simple because i like it when they look like collector's items or little toys...

An other nice toony thing by you!
If there is a competition "toony", you will win it

looks great!
Yup, turtles are great: they have a long life, and they live as they have a long life

That's great!
I think, that shell is quite nice! don't change it, except lowering the Exponent

yeah... the shell is weird because it has no turtle-shell-like texture, although it looks like it.
is SSS supposed to slow down renders dramatically?
is it even worth putting on simple objects?

Nice turtle! I like the "huh?!" look in it's eyes
as for using SSS....SURE why not? It may be a little slower to converge but it's worth it...The turtle skin could use a bit of SSS but I think the shell could just do with a simple bumpmap (oh and also lower the exponent like Kramster said)

loool
neepneep:
eg2k6 (a nick, that doesn't represent your pics at ALL) said, that he already used SSS for the skin

look at the image description

You just can't really see it: the light comes too uniformally from all the sides at once...

its background lighting.. so, yeah.
i think it went slow because i was rendering 2 things at once, the second render which i will post soon...

oh wups

.... I completely overlooked the image description
Well in that case, how about MORE SSS then?

tried again, this time with HDR lighting...
this render still has the glitched bump map reflection things on the shell, but im rendering it again right now problem-free.

The "bump only" solution for the shell is a bit poor, isn't it ? It's not a correct way to catch light, really... I'm dubitious about that.

what do you mean by "bump only?"
here is another render, this time with no bump map or SSS, but i might do SSS if i make the scene more complicated...

have you tonemapped it, or why is the turtle that much bighter in this scene?
It looks great

the turtle skin is a diffuse for now, until i make the scene more detailed.
sss darkened the skin, and the glitched bump map darkened the shell in the previous render.

what do you mean by "bump only?"
the glitched bump
I mean either let the shell as is or detail it further by modeling, but the bump map was killing the image a bit
Hey I like the design, don't get me wrong !
