Image #1 WIP: With window glass
Image #2 WIP: Without window glass
Both are way too noisy and were rendered overnight for 9 hours.
Some info:
- Bidirectional with MLT mode
- 1158 x 900 resolution
- 4x Supersampling factor
- HDRI environment
- scene info:
Dynamic objects: 109
Triangles: 9706479
Unique triangles: 8607407
My computer specs:
- Intel i5 3570K 3.40 GHz
- 24 GB of RAM
- Nvidia GTX 670, 2GB VRAM
My goal is to print it out. The dimensions are going to be around 50cm2/20inch2. So many more megapixels (around 30). But even the 1MP one isn't clear after 9 hours. Is this even a reasonable thing to expect from my computer?
I realize my CPU is weak. I preferably don't want to spend any money, but if upgrading is the only way to go then I'll have to do it. Though, not sure what a difference an i7 can make here.

Hi,
try rendering without MLT. While it gives relatively nice results quite fast, it may take a long time to give a noise free result.
Nice scene!

Did you use arch glass? Exit portals?
If you're thinking about an upgrade, consider getting a really good GPU instead. As you may have noticed, the GPU rendering in version 4 is quickly getting better and is a lot faster in general.

So I tried all your suggestions (exit portals, arch glass and bidirect. without MLT) and this is the result: http://i.imgur.com/rxD8vzQ.jpg
I am pleased. Thanks again
Bonus question: What exactly is arch glass?

Free of charge answer: Its specular material with reflections only, no refractions will be calculated. By this its way faster to render and perfect for windows, but you'll notice the fake once you put it on some none flat mesh.Oren–Nayar wrote:Bonus question: What exactly is arch glass?
