Hey guys. I am brand new to modeling and rendering. I am using Sketchup 2016 and Indigo since it seems to me to be the best of the bunch.
This is the 2nd scene I've created and I am still learning. My question is why am I getting those light tank speckles all over the scene? They seem most pronounced around the chair mat and left/back wall corner. This image is about a 12 minute render.
New user, scene problem
Re: New user, scene problem
Oddly enough, I removed the desk lamp and those weird light tan speckles went away. Can anyone help and explain why those speckles were appearing? I let it render for several hours and they didn't go away.
I posted on another general forum that I go to and the guys gave me some tips like adding some translucency to the glass in the bookcase, tone down the lights a little, remove the shadow from the rugs, remove the light reflection from the rugs.
I've only just scratched the surface of what I can do with Indigo. I kind of stumbled on how to create a light source from objects although I don't really understand the settings. I am not at that computer so I can't see them right now. I don't know what all the values for layer in the emitter section do. I just set it to 1 and enabled the emitter check-box and set the light to 500,000. Can anyone explain the settings for defining a light source a little better for me? Also, how do I add translucency to the black glass in the bookcase? Would I have to create a new material and define it that way somehow? When I created the light source for the lamp on the back wall, it automatically put the same settings for the other lamp. Why did it do that? If I want one lamp dimmer than the other, how do I accomplish it?

Hi and welcome, looks like a good start. Check the FAQ (in particular the bright speck question), hopefully that'll help you.
