Atmospherics

Post by thesquirell » Mon Sep 15, 2014 4:37 am

How are we standing in terms of atmospherics, like aerial perspective or clouds? I couldn't find any working volumetric material in the library and the posts regarding this subject are somewhat old.

these projects are personal experimentations that have not yet led to such releases. I have though resumed my own works of clouds and am aiming at releasing one complex mat with interesting features soonish. Rendering clouds within a physical atmosphere seems to be tricky and certainly costly but doable.

If you have something to render, I'm happy to offer my 3 x 4770k systems to do the job ;)

CTZn, your work on this subject was amazing! Can't wait to see more more! I was just thinking how awesome would it be to have a full control over the atmosphere of our scenes within Indigo, or from host apps, something like http://support.nextlimit.com/display/mx ... olumetrics. :D

Zom-B: okay I have sent Ono a month ago or so a couple IGQ to render, I think I should crowd source the task instead since there is interest in the matter.

the squirrel: thanks, it's just noise with little modifications and rendered by Indigo :-) I think I'll rather post a simplified clouds material for starters ?

"just noise with little modifications..." - you are a beast, man. For me, it is a rocket science! :D
That would be great, so we could start fiddling with the mat!

I would be the happiest man to see the creation of an atmosphere module for Indigo. And I think you "cloud" guys could get us there! :D

well thanks, I'm glad i can share interests !

so here's the current render, and yes it's the simplified version ! That should be out by the week.

To be fair to whom deserves, Onto was the first to render clouds years ago; also for several releases now, rendering clouds is much faster than it was before.

Now I have a question about the Max extinction coefficient; it is quite low here.

Is it right to consider it a spatial resolution parameter ?
should shaders be designed for a value of 1.0 ?
what is Max extinction coef finally ?

once I was done I thought it was smart to change the Max extinction coeff to one from 0.025 and found myself with floating concrete bunkers then I los it for a moment :?

I'm creating a thread in the materials subforum around the release. I'm assuming the spatial resolution thingy.
