[BUG] Gfx card not detected.

Hi,
I just downloaded the trial version of 3.0 and it seems that Indigo is unable to detect my graphic card. I have tried the soft on my laptop (MBA) and it works great, but I am unable to use the GPU acceleration on my PC.
I attached an image that illustrates this, as you can see Indigo does not display my GPU in the dropdown list menu, only my CPU is.

I am using a FirePro V8800 with the latest catalyst on windows7 x64.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Cheers.

I have the same problem as you, with a FireGl 8600, I posted and no response yet, I would like to buy it, but I don't know now.

Hi, I think those graphics cards (over 3 years old) don't support local memory, which we require for our kernels.

The ATI/AMD graphics cards should be of the same generation as the Radeon 5xxx series, which have the required functionality and have been found to work well with Indigo in OpenCL mode.

Pardon me for adding a remark, given that in all cases lycium knows better than me on the topic (better than anyone actually :D). Since he answered you while I was typing this I will address this message to users having similar issues (bad card detection, gpu counter performances):

If you believe that recent Catalyst should be enough you may be wrong. Though he had a more recent ATI model, we just addressed the case of a user who previously had tried drivers 11.5 and 11.5b from AMD and Indigo was having troubles with very simple scenes in GPU mode.

He could finally use his GPU normally after he installed Catalyst 11.6. In all cases, please install the latest drivers for your video card. Because your common 3d applications are running flawlessly with older drivers doesn't mean that Indigo should.

As lycium told me in private:
lycium, talking about GPU hardware wrote:Both CUDA and OpenCL are pretty new and fragile, with each driver release bringing crucial improvements.
Just a side note.

Hi thanks for the answer,
The V8800 was released in April 2010, its a Cypress based GPU, so I cannot understand how my gfx card could not work with Indigo. :?
I have tried with another PC at work, which is running a V5800 (Juniper) and it works great.

Oh, I must have made a mistake with the model number  That is indeed strange, as the card should work fine given the latest drivers; I'm going to try to get a Radeon in the office for testing soon.

I think have the same problem as Wolvawab. I downloaded the latest trial of indigo 3. My graphic card is ati hd5770 and the only option I see in my gpu acceleration menu is my AMD processor + open cl. Is that right? Does this mean than my gpu is used by indigo for the render?

thank you

To be honest, I don't think that testing with a Radeon will solve the problem. :(
The FirePro cards use a different drivers, it is not the same Catalyst.

The AMD card we have here for development is a FirePro V5800, and actually it does seem to use the Catalyst drivers :?: More to the point, it works great with GPU acceleration.

When i first instaled indigo3 demo, there were 2 options in the menu. One for the cpu and one called Juniper for my gpu I guess. I had the 11.2 catalyst drivers. When I updated to 11.4 and 5 the juniper option dissapeared. Catalyst 11.6 meshed with my system and I removed them...

any ideas?

If you have the time/equipment you could try the v8800 in a different pc or with a new os (spare hdd or dual boot)

I know troubleshooting is a time consuming pain, but you would find out if it's your current windows/drivers setup or an indigo support issue

It's absolutely crucial to have the latest drivers for GPU acceleration.

Like I told you, I have tried with a V5800 at work and it works like a charm. The Catalyst drivers for FirePro is not the same Catalyst that is used for Radeon cards. The latest Catalyst for FirePro cards is version 8.773.1.1 available here:
http://support.amd.com/fr/gpudownload/f ... n7-64.aspx

I am using those drivers for both the V8800 at home and V5800 at work. I am using Vray2.0 in Maya 2012 and the RT Engine rocks with my card. 8)
This is unfortunate because I am really interested in Indigo.

I will, thanks for the advice.

Just transferred my V8800 to my work computer.
And still no luck...
