i'm doing some tests with hair... anyone got any tips for good results?

here's my render so far - it's not great.
Image

basically a blender particle system converted to a mesh - which i then extruded a little, and split into individual pieces (3,500 x 20vert meshes - indigo crashed when trying to parse the whole thing as one mesh).

i guess i didn't extrude enough?
or si there a way that blender can turn a string of vertices into a cylindrical object (ack, vertex count will go up dramatically though :P ).

haha

yeah actually it's more like can't do it.

its just geometry overload causeing blender and indigo to crash.

*gives up*

Yep, too much for both Indigo & Blender to handle. It's way easy to hit the wall.

actually, i got this far:

i just can't be bothered to keep waiting to export and render the vast amount of meshes to try each change (and then moreoften than not see something crash).

Since she's a plastic doll, you could make her hair a solid piece of plastic as well.
