A testament to both Blender and Indigo for noobies....

Im fairly new to Blender and very new to indigo.
But it is impressive that it is possible to create something simple in little time.
This is by no means supposed to be a fantastic creation of any kind, I just hoped it might inspire noobies like me to try and create something equally simple.

u can improve the rendering-speed by using exitportals. but maybe u already used them!

...and you can improve it further, by using 70-80% white, instead of this very bright, close to 100% one.

It'll also add more contrast to your scene.
Oh, and be careful with normals.
Add an edgesplit modifier to every object in those scenes

(it will get rid of the black parts at for example the stairs

)
Great start, so far

Thats sounds useful. Ive no idea how to do it though. I tried a search but found no info on how.
I tried setting my window object as Exit portal under materials but all I get from the render is a black screen (i.e. No light at all)

Sounds good, but Im unsure as to how to do that....

Again, im unsure how to add an edgesplit modifier, but i'll try and find out and give it a go.
Thanks very much to both of you.

Exitportal:
create a box where ONE side is OPEN(delete one quad of a cube) and then position this cube at the outside or your room that the open poly of the cube completey covers the opening of the window. and the normals of theis box hav got to point inwards! and then u assign a material to these cubes, which are an exitportal. that should be fine!

In blender
Select a mesh.
In your buttons window, choose "Editing" mode (the little faceless cube icon)
Then on the left side, you'll see a "Modifiers" tab.
Click Add Modifier.
Choose "Edgesplit"
That's it!
It'll fix your black edges of objects problem.

Thanks again for the replies.
Ive now understood the edgesplit, thanks to both Kram1032 & zsouthboy for the help
But im not managing to get the exit portal working.
I have followed the suggestion but it appear to make no difference to my rendering times, so I must assume I have not set it correctly.
I fully understand the logic what its telling the scene so can see why it would speed up the rendering time.
If anybody knows any links or better still a blend file (a very simple one) showing an exit portal that would be useful.
Thanks again to all who replied.

to change the whiteness, simply change the colour in blendigo

any grey will be fine.
simply set your diffuse colour to 0.7 0.7 0.7 or 0.8 0.8 0.8 or anything in between
