Just testing Indigo's new shadow catcher feature. Hdri and backplate from Moofe. Sketchup model made by Irmantenis.

Thats great! Can you run through the process of setting this sort of scene up in sketchup please? I've never been able to figure it out.

Thanks,

There is a general (not SketchUp specific) tutorial here: http://www.indigorenderer.com/documenta ... s-tutorial

Seems somebody stolen the engine of that car :D
Using alpha renders you need to double the layer of the car in your 2D app, since the car is still a little transparent (longer render times, lower SuperSampling (!) and radial splatting help here!)

Perspective looks good, but the car looks a bit pale and flat for some reason. Would need some more reflections and contrast to go with the backplate I think.

Thanks. Works! I used the photomatching in sketchup to get the car to the correct perspective (just about)

Not sure whats going on with the material on the far door pillar internally, but the concept is sound.

Couple of things:

1) I can't select the car object in its entirety to make it invisible to camera. The 'pick object' eye dropper just selects the individual components in the model, even though the entire car is its own component.

2) Might be worth adding to your tutorial that you need to save your shadow and foreground alpha images as .png files not .jpeg.....if your other users are as dumb as me, then they'll do what I did and save them as jpegs then not be able to understand why the layers won't composite in photoshop....

Anyone got any good sources of free (no doubt low res) backplates and matching hdri files?

Did duplicate car layer. Hope this seems better and not flat.

That does look better, but now the problem is that the backplate is much sharper than the car.

That's correct. I increased car size in Photoshop to match nice with backplate, because I use demo indigo version (0.7 mpx output etc). Here's another angle. Don't know though how to scale (or zoom) model to have the right size according to the picture. How could I use a reference item?

The car is in movement SO it is a little blurrier :D
