it would be great to have an option to add a scatter system (or multiple) from within Indigo GUI. is that in the works?

Hi Onizuka.
Maybe if I can take a look to the scene... From pictures is difficult to say.
If you can send only the scene without textures and instances I try to install some godrays for you.
I want only the clouds volume and the general atmospheric situation.
Tomorrow I take some days for rest so hurry up! :)

Probably a simple pigs could help.

Ok I will try to do it. Can I add the pigs file by the same way I add an image ?

The pigs with the situation is right.
Sorry now I read right your question. Yes you can add a pigs like an image, but with the restriction of 4 MB. Probably the scene is heavy and you need to post a link from an external server.

Yes this was my question. I created the PIGS, but I have an error when I try to open it, I don't get it since I just saved my scene wich works correctly

Hi again Onizuka.
Well, the setup of the meshes is a bit odd.

Code: Select all

		<name>Google Earth Terrain0001</name>
			<pos>38.17152265408039 15.893874094736576 84.01527395368349</pos>

		<name>Grouper#104</name>
			<pos>-14735.085823826814 -23590.828506635367 49.999999997515786</pos>

		<name>Grouper#103</name>
			<pos>-6370999.999999999 -6370999.999999999 -12741999.999999994</pos>
The terrain is at 84 m of altitude.
The clouds mesh is at 50 m of altitude.

This means that you are removing the possible SSS under the clouds with the low half of the clouds box.
Take in account the precedence. Both are at 10. It is better than you give to the "atmosphere" a precedence of 2 (to remove the air medium of indigo that has the precedence 1). Then give to the clouds medium a precedence of 3.

If the center of the clouds box is an at altitude of 2000 m and the height of the box is 1000 m then the code for clouds goes from 1500m to 2500m. In this way you have 1500 meters of atmosphere between the clouds and the terrain and godrays could be catched.

I suggest to you to use indigo´s atmosphere instead of this material, is not heaviest to process. Look at the position of the atmosphere mesh (Grouper#103). The right position for the atmosphere is 0 0 -6378135. Seems that this mesh has more than twice the scale (correct radius is 6458135 meters, 80 km from the sea level at 6378135 meters).

Is not the best example but I sent you back the file. I only introduce the right atmosphere and raise the clouds volume to 2000 m with a bigger caracteristic scale. Also I removed some meshes that I can not understand.

More things. Try to use a generated aperture for the cam instead of the circular, is a lot faster. Is cleaner to use radial as splat filter and sharp as downsize filter.

If you still encountering difficulties for the scene the next week I can help you a little more.
Good luck!

Thank you a lot for your help yonosoy; I'm also sorry but I remade a quick scene inside sketchup when you asked me to send a pigs file, without instances and many other objects and materials, but I had to do quick and messed up a little by replacing the atmosphere at the right position and didn't reajust some parameters like for the aperture shape that explains it. But I had done some of the modification you and others had adviced in previous posts
But I don't understand the problem with the cloud box because since some older posts I made the box of it go Under the terrain down to 50m Under it especially to catch the rays but it didn't happen on my renders; maybe because of the precedence then I guess..?

I couldn't set up the Indigo atmosphere, that's why I used an SSS material but I'm now looking at your scene and I will try to set the real Indigo atmosphere.

And for the precedence, is the rule not "the medium containing a medium must have the highest precedence" so shouldn't it be more like that: atmosphere precedence 3, clouds precedence 2 ? or just a different precedence is also correct ? just so that it'd be more clear to my mind.

One more question, when Inside Indigo I modify the position of the atmosphere medium, does the mesh replace itself automatically according to the new medium position ? Or it should always be placed before exporting

Thanks again, and I will get the godrays :) I hope to show some beautifull renders

When two meshes intersects and both of them has a material with precedence, the one with highest predcedence remove the other. Clouds must has a higher precedence than the atmosphere.

Just open the pigs and save the atmosphere material as pigm. Then in your app use an external material and linked the pigs. The center of the atmosphere code must concordate with the center of the mesh.
The mesh remains in the same place. Is the code that moves along the mesh of base.

You need to know that the space that inside the cloudsbox are void has a value for absoption of 0 and a value for SSS of 0. This is because you can´t view godrays if the cloudsbox "touch" the terrain.

Ok but I don't understand: should the center of the atmosphere mesh be at level 0m in sketchup, and so the terrain at 6378135m of altitude to be 80000m Under the atmosphere surface; or should my terrain be at 0m altitude and 80000m Under the surface of the atmosphere sphere ?

sorry if I sound dumb but... ^^

No problem man! Ask all you need.
Your terrain must be in the place you desire over the sea level (0 meters).
When you install the atmosphere in the position 0,0,-6378135 you are telling indigo that the sea level is equal to 0 meters (it means that there is no light under 0 meters because from the whole atmosphere mesh only the last external 80000 meters are taking in account.

So, your terrain at an altitude over the sea (0 meters), the clouds at an altitude of 2000 meters and a height of for example 1000, and the atmosphere in the position 0 0 -6378135.
For the atmosphere just take an icosaedro sphere with a certain resolution, give to it a radius of 6458135 meters in the position 0 0 -6378135. In the atmosphere material you have a position slot with the three components, X,Y,Z. For indigo Z is the altitude (take in account the axis of your app, maybe inside it you must feed over the Y axis, then indigo exports right). So in the material the position is 0 0 -6378135.
In this way all works fine.
Camon, you are near!

You can too placed the atmosphere in 0 0 0 (center of the universe, then your sea level be 6378135 meters.
But I suggest to you the first option, where the cam is near the universal center.

oooh ok I think I get it, it means actually that the center of the sphere would be at 6378135m Under the 0m of sketchup (Under the origin). I couldn't get where the coordinates were based for the sphere; I'm testing

That's exactly how it should be done !
