Hi, i just want to share a in progress render using the last addition to the renderer, i'm very amazed by the speed of the instancing system, very good work Nick !!

The render it's based on a 12 min. version heavily postworked to my taste :)
I'll post the finished untouched version later. Model is from Dosch car library.

how did you generate the code?
The code use the instance scene found in the new release as base and i generate the instances with the ruby script of nick found in the blog section,
ruby is very easy to learn and speed on processing data, but i need to adapt the system to use with maya particle system ;)
How many cars/triangles are there ?
The mesh contain 204736 tris, and there are 2500 cars (511 840 000 tris  ), and Indigo never claim more than 150 meg during the rendering,
Running on a amd turion64 laptop with 1gig of ram under win64.

Hope to see back tree caches rapidly !!?

I like those mustangs! I wanted to buy that car since it was fairly cheap as a base model. I have always liked the 60's era mustangs and was delighted to see they did a retro version of it. (I wasn't born quite yet) Turns out my local dealership not only wanted the MSRP sticker price (usually around here sticker is absolute max) but also added about $3500 to it and claimed it was popular. It turned me off so much I didn't even shop around, but pretty much focused on a different car. That sort of pushed it into a group slightly better than entry level sports car that the base model was. (in my opinion, and I was interested in the base model) That was almost a year ago now I think. I still think it is a nice car.

Anyway back on topic....I'm delighted also to see instancing support. Your image is very pretty. Looks like an endless lot of cars. Or a very big car dealership? One where you need to take a trolly around to find what your looking for. Oh know, I just remembered while writing this, those are hanging verticle, I guess the car dealership idea is out!

Ok after playing with all the param of sss function, i tried to make something more usual like skin/wax effect, ior it's at 1 because even if i use glossy_transparent function, the result it's not the same or darker when i use the proper ior :
