I'm looking for serious critique on this image before I render a final, full-res version. I would rely on the designated Evermotion forum, but that has proved to be an unreliable venue.

So, any comments, suggestions, or critiques you may have, please share!

Here's the Evermotion thread

And here's the most recent WIP image:

You must not publish the work during the Challenge outside the dedicated forum, you can link to it if you like.

The carpet is not working for me.
Everything else looks good.

What in particular do you not like about the carpet and what would you suggest I change?

The problem is that anyone without an Evermotion account is unable to view the images.

Let's not endanger your work Godzilla, though, I for one could not comment otherwise as for now...

Well the wall texture is altered but clean, that's kinf of an oxymoron for me. Some darker parts near the floor/ceiling, any subtle, wouldn't hurt.

Best luck !

Perhaps I will run a cloth simulation to have them resting on the ground... :)

I don't like that spider net type of pattern.
It looks a bit like polygon errors to me for some reason.

While the "ripple/swirl" was a good idea to make the carpet better, I agree with suvakas here, in its current form it looks verry unnatural and needs fixing.

Aww... I liked the pattern on the carpet..

I guess I'll change it to something else though, I can see what you mean.

Keep the pattern but do it clean(er).
In it's current state it's some kind of jagged lines not really forming a pattern.

You know you are doing something right when people are discussing and debating over the furniture in the scene and not the quality and technicalities, so in that respect, good job.

Do something about the overexposure of the lamp. It should look bright as I am sure you intend but details should be clearly visible.

In a daylight scene like that, I would expect the lamp to appear a lot dimmer in contrast with the sun light, however do what make it look good and not what is necessarily realistic, whatever makes the eyes happy and the products AAndres look high quality.

Firstly: great image! 8)
I don't really mind the carpet, I suppose the pattern is at odds with the rest of the room, everything else is vertical or horizontal, but the pattern kinda converges at the point in the middle. Maybe just shifting the center of the pattern to one side or corner.
I love the imperfections on the carpet btw, nice to have the edges up like that.

I would second Kristof's mention of the overexposure. It makes the lamp and part of the wall lack definition. The left side of the wall bleeds into the env map too, maybe a trim or something to show the edge. It's difficult to give suggestions because it's quite technically perfect really, and so the rest is just artistic impressions.

Oh I see now there's a curtain at the back, between the curtain, the white wall, and the brightness of the overcast env map, they kinda all blend together. Some definition could be added there :)

Good work!
