For those of us with 3+ computers we use regularly.... how will this work?

We haven't worked out how multiple computer licensing will work yet.

What do you mean by the huge .igi files being generated all the time? :)

Well.. Basically every time you render, indigo drops a new 30 mb IGI file into your indigo/renders directory, even if it's part of the same scene you're working on. So, ever change you make and re-render, you have more IGIs. Personally, I often have around a dozen per job.... Afterawhile, they can really pile up.. Maybe a tool for export writers to clean out old IGMs.. Maybe a way for the exporter to tell indigo to only update the old IGI file as you make changes to your scene instead of creating a brand new one? :)

Should Indigo clean your Temporary internet files too ?
I mean why only limit it with igi files?

No, because those are the files indigo generates. Indigo is one of the few renderers that generates so many (huge) files.

It generates .igi's at your request. Turn it off if you don't like it (and then cry when the day comes you need to resume a render and find you can't).

A "render with out IGI" button would be much faster.

and should already be provided for you by your exporter developer....

Take it easy bud. I realize that there is an option to disable IGIs, but given how frequently you might use it, it should be right up there with the render button in my opinion.

How frequently one might use it? Like all the time?!

If you don't use it, create a bat file in renders folder

Code: Select all

del *.*
And it will trash the suckers

It all probably depends on your scene. Small scenes probably don't need them but ones that take more time to render. While these may be a minority for me, it still means that I will need them some of the time.

Honestly, I happen to know what a bat file is but many people don't.. Indigo should have a tool or two to clean up the folder..

Maybe when you stop the render, it could ask you if you want to save the IGI file? Maybe you could set indigo to delete IGI files below a certain size? Every so often?

Is it possible that IGIs could be reduced in terms of the amount of HD space they take?

This is just brainstorming based on one simple fact : Over a relatively short period of time, indigo really builds up on HD space, without much feedback or notice. You could go in and delete them all manually, but that seems like it hurts the user friendliness of the app and impose a mundane triviality upon the user..

Seriously?!! organizing and managing the contents of the 'renders' folder is not that hard to do neo!!!

adding all these options makes it harder to automate the processes neo0. I have a set up with WUOSB (wake up on standby) that allows me to run renders at night when I go to sleep (my computer is in my bedroom) and shut the thing down before I wake up in he morning. More of the comfort options would make setups such asthese much more annoying. I'm sue many people have their own little setups like these!?
