Layered Skin

Post by Jambert » Fri Dec 04, 2009 10:07 pm

from this post http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/vie ... f=7&t=7525

Do someone could give us some explanation, how to create layered skin, what kind of material on the layers?
would be nice to see new absorption layer transmittance in action and get a real skin material for indigo :)

thx

I would recommend glossy transparent, exponent < 100, with a SSS medium with red-coloured absorption and uniform scattering, plus a mostly-white absorption layer transmittance texture applied to glossy transparent material for skin blemishes.

Here's a test but without any absorption layer. The bump map is not the best.

Glossy Transparent
IOR=1.15
Exponent=75
SSS=1000
Absorption=86,282,369

I think about 3500. I'm rendering another version right now without the bump map for reference.

nice tests Whaat. The results actually look quite gross and disgusting, which I guess is a good thing as it means it looks realistic :)

I guess people from NZ must have perfect skin or something! Here in Canada, our skin looks like meat!

Here's another test that came out better. I made some changes to the blemish map (there's still too many of them, but it's just for testing purposes) The skin tone is getting much closer to my own.

I think that looks pretty good. All that's needed now is some oily patches, and some small hairs, for perfect realism at least.
