I dont know how nice joomla will play with this (user log in nesciary and all), but could it be possible to provide an API so that exporter writers and 3rd party codes could write programs can can browse / upload / download from the material database themselves? I think id be realy cool if you could just click "find material" type in the description, click apply, and have a material happily placed into you scene

yes, that would be cool. but maybe its enough to include a link to the material database
