Does anyone have an idea?

Try the Double Sided Transmitter material. Should have way more control over the light transmission and what goes on each side of the page.

The diffuse transmitter will give interesting results only if you blend it with something else (in your case, diffuse, oren-nayar or phong) with only a few % of diffuse transmitter fraction. Pure diffuse transmitter corresponds to nothing in the real world, but the blend do.
I'm sure that you can have a rather good transluescent paper material with diffuse transmitter if set-up properly. The double sided material will add some interesting fine-tuning, though.

Nothing big happening really. Etienne suggested that the double sided material could be used for interesting effects for a paper sheet, but given the initial difficulty experienced by schmums with it, he is insisting on the relevance of a simple blend for such purposes.
