ok, here's a quick tut of how I get it done. BTW, Manitwo also helped me a lot on finding the tools and getting the job done! Thnx Manitwo! :wink:
1.Download hdr2exr
http://hem.bredband.net/b230591/hdr2exr ... _win32.zip
or from my mirror:
http://www.danielpatton.com/afecelis/In ... _win32.zip

2.Create a folder in C: and call it "hdr2exr"; unzip the files there:

3.Right click on "My Computer", select "properties", "advanced", on the lower part select "environment variables", from the new window that pops up, in the lower part (system variables) scroll down and select "path" and click on "edit"; then add "C:\hdr2exr" at the end of the path; make sure to separate using semicolons (as in my screenshot, or adjust the path according to where you placed/unzipped the program).

Click on OK to confirm the changes done so that the system starts using them.
Now we can execute hdr2exr from a command line anywhere in our system :)

4. Download Manitwo's suggested tool "cmdhere", a nice app that adds the possibility of opening a dos terminal by selecting any folder an right clicking on it. Grab it here:
http://www.zdnet.de/downloads/prg/0/1/e ... 01-wc.html
or from Microsoft's powertoys site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/down ... rtoys.mspx
direct link:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... ySetup.exe
Or, Just in case; from my mirror:
http://www.danielpatton.com/afecelis/In ... ySetup.exe

5. Install cmdhere, and then right click on the folder where you got the .hdr images you want to convert. Select "Open Command Window Here"
Image

6.In the DOS terminal that opens up type "hdr2exr myimage.hdr myimage.exr " (in my case: "hdr2exr urban.hdr urban.exr") and wait for a while.
Image

7. Your exr gets created in the same folder as your hdr :wink: everyone's happy! (check out the exr created in the screenshot above).

Now you just use it in your blender exporter as "Texture Map" in your "environment type"

hope it helps! :D

ps. It seems like Indigo only works with LatLong hdr images, spherical ones make it crash. In case you need to convert them from spherical to latlong using hdrshop, here Manitwo describes the process:
In case someone doesn't know:
to convert a (lets say) spherical hdr to a latlong hdr,
goto hdrshop->image->panorama->panoramic transformations
source image -> format = mirrored ball
destination image -> format = Latitude/Longitude
-> ok
You can download hdrshop from here:
http://gl.ict.usc.edu/HDRShop/
Look for the "download v1" button which links to the free version.

And, you can find several free and good hdr images in the net but the evrmotion Free HDRI CD collection seems to be a very good start point:

http://www.evermotion.org/index.php?unf ... =exclusive

have fun! :D

Hi,

Because Indigo uses only EXR. I never used one but as far as I have understood, it is used for background picture but also as a lightsource. Color informations of the picture are used to illuminate the scene.

May someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I got the message " Failed to open 'myimage.hdr' in mode 'rb' after following all instructions.

I downloaded the hdr image with the smaller size.. about 7mb. Do I need the large size hdr?
