Tutorial ("Getting Started") Lighting

Hey guys,
I'm currently doing the tutorial "Getting Started". I think it's an older version of SkIndigo but it has this light on a wall, and you have to select a 100W Incandesent bulb and what not, it's a blackbody light, set environment to black, and then render it.
Because of the different versions, it took me awhile to find the way to select the things i needed to, as the tutorial is "out of date" so to speak.
So, i eventually did what it told me to, and on the next tutorial page in SU, it shows what the rendering should look like. and my rendering looks nothing like it...it's just a wall that's brighter at the center than the edges, and the light isn't even showing up.
what did i do wrong?
