Light decay question

Hello everybody
What I have noticed when rendering a scene with various light sources (not environment map) is that the light decay of all lights is not realistic. Meaning that the light dies out soon an creates a big contrast near the source.
Is there a way to generally adjust the way that light decays? Maybe a setting in the Advanced parameters menu or it has to be done in every material individually?
Thank you in advance
