Using an exr image in sketchup

Hi, so after exploring around the forums, I would like to try using an exr as an environment map. I know it is listed as supported under the new exporter, but I don't know how to get it into the sketchup model.
Anyone tried this yet?

It is very easy. For now, the EXR must be in same directory as your XML/IGS file. There is no way to see the EXR image in the Sketchup model before you render. I don't think this will ever be possible. If you could somehow convert the EXR to JPEG and apply the image to a dome in your model, you could possibly get an approximate representation of what the environment map would look like in the render, but I have never tried this.

So, I put the .exr file in the Indigo directory, which is where I put my igs files.
I select Environment Map from the Render Settings dialog, than I export and I get an error saying that no environment map has been set.
Than Indigo throws up an error, and than shuts down.
So I go to the Ruby console thinking I can type in "Indigo.igs" to hand edit the igs file and add in the exr map, but I get a "cannot read the localinifile.txt" error.
Not sure where I set the environment map, and I don't know how to hand edit an igs file.
thanks

Monday morning again isn't it?
You are using SkIndigo0.7test7 aren't you?
You are using Indigo 0.7test7 aren't you?
Did you look at the new SkIndigo menu option "Set Environment Map"?
If it still doesn't make sense how to do it, let me know. You should not have any reason to hand-edit your IGS file when using environment maps.
I hope you haven't found a bug.

Oh man,
I think someone is giving me de-caf in the morning.

I got to stop coming in and doing this,
but at least I'm learning.

No problem! Glad you are supporting the plugin! I'd love to see some of your Sketchup->Indigo renders posted.

Here's a test render I did just now. It uses an .exr for lighting. I hope there will be an easy solution for adding a nice sun (especially for the shadows).
Thanks for the plugin Whaat!

looks great

but the HDRi looks quite cutout-and-placed-in-background....

Hi Kram, there's actually a treeline object (made with a blend material (texture+clipmap). I know it looks confusing. Sorry about that.

ok, i downloadedfew .exr files and i can't render a scene using spherical type of enviroment map. I'm using latest indigo and skindigo test versions.
The error I get:
"Fatal Error: ImageExcep: Error encountered while reading RAW image. (In element 'spherical', around line 32, column 13)"
with Lat_Long settings renderer works just fine but, I'm not sure what width parameter does. I tried changing it from 640 up to 10000 nad nothing seems to happen.
other than that , i'm friggin impressed by both skindigo and indigo development.

spherical HDRi s have to be in .float, for some reason
sperical ... .float
LatLon ..... .exr

dunno
you have to convert them to LatLong + .exr, by using HDRi-shop or Photoshop, or something like that... (at least, I THINK, photoshop can convert them)
.float isn't really good, btw: huge file-size.
You really should use LatLong in Indigo....

I've been testing scenes using .exr images, but I'm having some problems.
What width should the exr image be set to in the Skindigo exporter, the scene width or the actual width of the exr image? I keep getting exr images that are all distorted, stretched out even though i've tried different settings.
Any help with how indigo places the image is greatly appreciated!
Thanks-

I do not know exactly how Indigo places the exr image, but I do know that the width settings has no effect on a Lat_Long EXR image. This parameter is only used for Spherical maps in .float format.
AFAIK, there is no present way to adjust the placement of the EXR image in Indigo. I believe the middle of the EXR image is placed at the horizon (z=0) but beyond that, I don't know.
