Re: August - September 2009 Competition
Hi guys!
Here in Italy it's still the 30th of september, and it'll be so for the next 14hours.
Deadline? So I can start the countdown.

Re: August - September 2009 Competition
Here it is...
Hope you like it as much as I did working on this I've modeled it from scratch in Sketchup, then unleashed Indigo power in it. Had to do a minor photoshop correction: the "truepic turbo" logo texture came up mirrored horizontally in the render (I flipped the texture horizontally in sketchup's texture editor, but that wasn't processed by skindigo).
My Nickname: bmscmoreira
Version of Indigo used: 2.2.1 Osx Version.
Rendering time / CPU's: I stopped it at 14h, but as far as I could see from the 5th hour the differences were minimal. Rendered in an Intel® Core(™)2 Duo E8435 @ 3.06GHz.
List of tools used:
google sketchup 7.1 (modeling) - many thanks to Fredo6, author of "Tools on Surface" and "Bezier Spline", ruby scripts for sketchup. Without those it would surely have been much harder!
indigo 2.2.1. (rendering)
photoshop elements 6.0 (texture correction)
Pigs file size: 315Kb.
PS: I am in no way affiliated with Olympus…
I was just wondering what to do when I looked sideways and saw my camera lying on the table. Then I thought… "Why not"?.
Cheers to all.

Version of Indigo used: Indigo Renderer v2.2.1
Rendering time / CPU's: 6h 25min on 4x3Ghz + 2x2.8Ghz => 10250spp
List of tools used (and external artwork, with links): C4D + Cindigo
Eucalyptus Grove, UC Berkeley EnvMap from http://www.debevec.org/Probes/
(since exr support is broken atm, I only could use the float image that is quite big in size... using a exr would be the goal here!)
The Idea behind this scene was to have a low Poly Model subdivided and smoothed by Indigo + a lot of Instance ue and DOF.
There is no SSS here, but this would be a great SSS test scene (with less DOF Blur)
20 Meshes + 577 Instances
I just updated with a SSS version, just to show it. The Problem here is that for a 6mm ant in real scale you need a very high Scattering Value to prevent being too clear specular. Also there seems to bee a bug with specular overlapping meshes since some time (see antennas!). I raised the scale of the ant here, so it is 1m long:

Re: August - September 2009 Competition
Okay, here's my submission.
-good stuff I like in this scene are tiny DoF, subtle demonstration of aperture diffraction and dof in pins and lights, instancing, lights are layered for tweaking and itwould be fun to be able to adjust focus in this scene in indigo too. Light is all emitters and physical sun, no env map.
-things that were last minute and I'm kicking myself for: adding the fbm shader to the shelf without scaling the uvs properly, adding the shelf last minute and not proportioning the leg properly, and the shelf could use another round of beveling.
My CPU is a 2.6 Core2Duo images rendered at 1600x1200. Software used includes formZ, blender and indigo.
Backgrounded version (~950k pigs) was about 9 hours with ram consumption of 320MB .
Backdropped version (~300k pigs) is at 16.

Re: August - September 2009 Competition
I like sparlin's first image, but perhaps because it tricked my eye at first and I thought it was an aerial rendering of a new archipelago off dubai with its blue and white. That refracted light outline in the edges of the water is unreal.
EDIT:oops, now I notice he removed the original image from his post, so now I sound crazy,...
