Did i do something wrong.?
Certainly you are not in cause, photons !

What operating system are you running Maya on ?

Try activating the sun/sky through the shelf instead, then start the Palette and see if you can switch env modes safely. There are tricky things happening into the Palette if you switch to sun/sky without having created a sun first, actually managing the case.

Does this crash Maya for everyone ?

Note that the resulting directional light is locked toward the center of the scene, it must be moved around to define the sun position. I will probably release this constrain soon.

Added cycle support for mesh instancers, now one single particle system can be used to instance an arbitrary number of meshes. Rotations and expressions not supported yet, will be in the next release (FEB10 brand).

I'll post a few images as soon as I can get enough RAM for Maya to compare versions

Mayabatch: 1GB+ usage (optimized instances is on !)
Indigo: 52MB (peak)

Frame 48, PaintFX wind is still applicable on meshes (have history) and should be consistent of direction amongst the instances (no rotations involved yet). 8 meshes, 3196 particules, 23128228 triangles Maya says (32 bits steady).

Instances are exported by default, tested withe the following setup:

- film (24fps)
- Sequential instance cycling (Frame)

Other time units should rock already.

I didn't tweak the duplicate instances proc, it's gross and won't allow motion blur. Particles instances would.

That's a relief. Strings or UI stuff might be not linux/Unix safe, I did not care until recently.

Code: Select all

photons, can you please try the following actions and tell me if that crashes Maya:

- create a new scene
- call the Palette
- from the messy OUTPUT pane switch to ENVIRONMENT
- change environment type to BackgroundColour

A similar mechanism to the one wich crashed Maya according to your report should lead the Palette to the following setup:

Image

Basically the user is sent back to the Camera pane to create one.
Important: Be sure to uninstall MtI1.0.9_3 file by file as their names have changed but similar procedures may conflict.
