In the interest of openness - here are the results to the August survey. Thoughts?

Some of the things I agree with:

* Better blender exporter - blendigo is really creaky and needs to be massively upgraded. We've been talking with smartden about this, we'll see what happens.

* Better roadmap and explanation - I get the impression a lot of people don't know what the future of Indigo is or whether it's still going to be upgraded, so they are less sure of buying because of this.

:)

6. Is there anything Indigo can do to make it more useful for free users?
2000 x1600 px renders without watermark
LOL.

Much butter student pricing
lol

I feel that speed and features will make indigo more appealing to both the free and commercial crowd, but ultimately the price determines how accessible it is to people.. Personally, I care less about speed or the watermark and more about max resolution. .7 megapixels is extremely restrictive since that's less than 50% of most monitors total space. 1000x700 is also a very uncommon aspect ratio, so you're gonna get fov distortion..

I can just leave my PC on for the whole day while I go drinking with friends or go to my GFs..

Well, that is except for material previews.. If anything could be done to speed those up, it would be great :)

Documentation is a pretty big problem too.. There is no single source where people can go if they have questions like "whats the difference between phong ior and exponent?"

.7 MP is restrictive, yes, but that's why it's free.

Great, maybe next update could be done for blender 2.50?

Maybe it could be interesting to evaluate the used 3D-Applications in relation to the commercial users...

Yeah, my thought exactly. Please don't waste time and money on the old < 2.5 versions, they are dead soon anyway.

Interesting read!
I was surprised by the number of SolidWorks users.
I guess when visualising CAD data it's more comfortable to have a exporter directly from SolidWorks and not having to export to your 3D-application first.
Great, maybe next update could be done for blender 2.50?
+1
Ideasman (iirc) has written a pov-ray export script as example in 2.5 and it integrates so nice within Blender.
I heard rumors that the LuxBlend guys are already heavy working on an tightly integrated Blender 2.5 Exporter for Luxrender...

Blender 2.5 doesn't come out until "Quarter Two 2010", that's a long time to wait.. =/

Yes I know, but I really think they should wait for the official stable version before they start developing the new blendigo for it..

Wrong. They should start developing it now, so that the final stable version of the script is available at the time Blender 2.5 Stable is released.
That's at least what I think.

http://www.blender.org/blenderorg/blend ... raph-2009/
New Orleans, August 04 -- Siggraph 2009 -- The Blender Foundation, the organization behind the free and open source 3D creation suite Blender, today unveiled the result of the Blender 2.5 project, a fully customizable interface layout system, with advanced access to all tools and options Blender offers, and a fully revamped animation system.
The first of the official 2.5x series is expected to be released in October 2009.
October 2010 .... really?
