Why can't the new Windows GUI look as sexy as the Mac GUI?! :( :(

I'm continuing my tests, but I thought I would provide my .blend file so that other people could take a crack at making a lens collimator as well. The following render shows the raw, uncollimated beam emerging from a 0.5mm aperture with a divergence of approx. 3.5 degrees. The peg at the target indi...

Well, I'm getting close. I'll have to tinker some more to get the collimation tighter, though. The width of the peg at the wide end of the beam is the target beam diameter at 1 meter. I'm using a set of two lenses to collimate, but it seems VERY sensitive to the shape and thickness of the lens. I've...

Thank you, this is what I was trying to communicate.

I'm conducting my own tests right now.

Yes, photons are the end product, but Indigo cannot simulate the cascading electron effect that produces those photons. If it cannot simulate the light amplification, then it cannot simulate a laser. Sorry if I'm not explaining this very well, I'm trying my best. Also, I believe that beam divergence...

Would it be possible to write an IES file with the desired divergence? Then all that would be needed is a tiny triangle.

With a parabolic mirror alone I suspect that you're approximating a flashlight more than a laser, though. It could be used in combination with collimation to make it less wasteful though.

I think the best approximation would be an RGB emitter inside a tube housing with collimating optics. The beam width at the aperture should be around 1mm and spread at the rate that I mentioned in my last post.

I haven't read this entire thread, but I think that I should point out that if we are aiming for realism it does not mean a beam with perfectly parallel convergence. All lasers in real life spread out, although the angle can be made to be very small with proper collimation optics. In fact, a typical...

Try making it a blend of gold and copper; that should work pretty well.

Basically what you want to do is make sure that the UV sets the meshes are using and the UV sets Blendigo is using have the same name. I just assumed you left your UV set as the default name, 'UVTex'.

In Blendigo where you enter the UV set to use for the texture, enter 'UVTex'.
