You could use ALAC (Apple Lossless) instead of FLAC. Or go for experimental: http://blowintopieces.com/fluke/WytRaven wrote:Yeah I know but (I'll admit I didn't check) as far as I know it can't read FLAC. I would also wager it would ignore the extended metadata.

Hey, thanks for sharing. I will give "Max" a try.
Speed-wise, let's see what happens when such apps start to support OpenCL... Might need fast disks to keep up

Cool.
Actually, in Apple linguo "Universal" means PowerPC + Intel. x86 + x64 is just a type of "fat" binary (which is less sexy for sure ;) )fused wrote:the first Universal Mac build (x86 and x64) of Indigo.

Re: New kid on the block (GPU Renderer)
Hehe, true again  It's nice to see several GPU renderers coming out, though. But as a customer I'm really looking forward to see hardware-independent versions (ie. based on OpenCL). From the webpage, Random Control's Arion looks like an "NVidia renderer". Same as Octane, at least for the time ...

True Lyc.
That's why I consider samples/s to be a completely useless metric to compare renderers.

Re: Alex Roman CG movie
Fantastic quality.
I think that it proves a point: Today's production renderers are all capable of photorealistic quality. What really does achieve photo-realistic level is the quality of the textures.

Re: Sigma?
Oren-Nayar does model masking, shadowing and interreflections. That is why when sigma increases, the surface appears darker as seen in the Wikipedia article. As for the dark edges, when sigma is 0 the model is Lambertian (the surface is completely flat and diffuse) and thus there is no backscatterin...

Re: Reqiest║Metal temperature
Well.. to be honest, Im kind of confused when it comes to this.. is light temp (in kelvins) equate to the same colors as metal temperature? Obviously, it would vary with different metals, but maybe it is similar for a few? There is no such thing as "metal temperature" in the way you are using the t...

I have no comparison points, but I would think that for a processing-bound applications like Indigo the compiler should indeed be more important than the underlying OS.lyc wrote:gcc 4.3+ is said to produce FAR better code than msvc for x64.

Re: One more reason to look forward to Win7
No I mean seriously, as much as Vista has it's flaws I still liked it, and even so Windows 7 is a leap forward compared to it, catch-up or no catch-up compared to Apple, Windows 7 beats Vista hands down. Ever since I started running Win7 (64bit) my boot times have been ridiculously quick. And I was...

Re: One more reason to look forward to Win7
Honestly, I can't wait to see how Apple responds to windows 7. At which level? Because honestly Windows 7 seems to be Microsoft's response to (1) their own "gem" called Vista, and (2) the latest version(s) of Mac OS X (e.g., support for OpenCL was added in Snow Leopard). If (1) is successful, then ...
