joxer, the license agreement on these verstions quite clearly states that they are free to use for any purpose. There's no way for the developer to retroactively change this as he's bound to these terms.

I think it's too early to judge anything. I'm looking forward for an actual license agreement. Until then I'm migrating to Lux.

Not really, unless this is a quite fast machine. I think a single Intel i7 is capable of doing this in about 10-15 days.

Yeah, they used something similar to your description.
Clay render is an exported scene with all mats replaced with diffuse light-grey. Useful to quickly check geometry and light.
